Berchtesgadener land, just a short drive
along the motorway, is acknowledged to be one of the most
beautiful areas of Germany.
It offers a number of unique attractions which can make
for a fantastic day out. These include:
Lake
Konigsee
This fjord like lake is set in the heart of the Berchtesgaden
National park. As well as offering a vast number of breathtaking
walks, a fleet of electrically powered boats cruise the
lake & enable you to visit St Bartholoma (former hunting
lodge of the Bavarian Kings) & Salet (where a footpath
leads up to Lake Obersee).
For a spectacular view of Lake Konigsee & the surrounding
National Park, take the Jennerbahn cable car to the peak
of Mount Jenner (1874m). The service operates all year round.
Located at an elevation of 1834m, Hitlers famous “Eagles
Nest” offers spectacular views of the area. It is
reached by special buses from the town, with the final ascent
via a lift inside the mountain.
Explore the centuries old saltmine hundreds of metres below
ground! After donning traditional miners clothing, you travel
into the mountain by railway before descending further on
huge wooden slides. Great fun & very informative.
This panoramic toll road winds its way through the mountains
above Berchtesgaden, offering spectacular views of the region.
Lots of parking areas are provided for picnicing & hiking.
It forms a large circuit & brings you back into the
village where you started.
