The wonderful city of Salzburg
made famous by the “Sound of Music” is easily
accessible by car or local bus. Once there, the city is
very compact & can be explored on foot with no great
distances between sights. There are so many places to visit
that this list can only be a short summary, but do include
time to check out the many exquisite shops, restaurants
& cafes.

Hohensalzburg Fortress
This magnificent castle dominates the skyline above the
city. A funicular in the old town transports you into
the castle walls, from where you can explore the many
rooms & defences. The guided tour includes a chance
to take in the best view of Salzburg!
The cathedral church of St Rupert &
St Virgil is located next to the Residenz & dominates
this part of town. It was designed to hold 10,000 worshippers,
more than the population of Salzburg, & features a monumental
interior.
No 9 Getreidgasse, in the heart of the old town,
is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It is now
a museum of the composer’s life & includes family
memorabilia & the composer’s early instruments.
Made famous in the film “The Sound of Music”,
the Mirabell Gardens are a lovely place to relax & soak
up the atmosphere whilst enjoying the delightful sculptures
& fountains.
One of the most interesting & fun places to visit is
the natural history museum. This vast complex extends over
five floors & has everything from a gigantic “Sea
World” to a “Reptile Zoo” & even features
a room simulating the Mississippi wetlands! Great for adults
& children alike.
